Alice Phoebe Lou of Berlin busking fame, Indie Pop sensation Al Bairre, Nancy Ginindza all the way from Swaziland, SA’s top electronic music DJ/Producer Thor Rixon & Khalil from the Muizenberg Bakery – all came together on the 19th of December 2015 at our beautiful Greenpoint Salesians (2 Somerset Rd) campus to raise awareness & celebrate the successes of some of CT’s most vulnerable youth. (Our first ‘Connect Concert’ was certainly the start of something very exciting.) It is incredible what our students achieved in 2015 and how so many were lifted from desperate situations to begin a new chapter with hope and opportunity for a better life. Our education and skills training programmes here at the Salesian Insitute aim to empower young people and give them a second chance. Not only do our students aquire skills, they also receive emotional support, life skills training, accomodation, meals, and finally – job placement. A huge thank you to the performers who took time out of their busy schedules to lend their voices to this powerful cause.
*Alice Phoebe Lou, born and raised in Kommetjie south of Cape Town, made a name for herself busking on the streets of Berlin. She has since been heralded the voice of the generation and moral compass of the youth – she stands for a more sustainable, compassionate and integrated world. Alice is touring the country with the legendary Sixto Rodriguez on his final SA tour – performing to crowds of thousands! We feel very honored to have hosted this great musician and incredibly powerful woman. Click here to hear Alice’s music / find our more about her.
